Annelise Orleck Arrested during Pro-Palestinian Protest

In a recent protest at Dartmouth College, history professor Annelise Orleck ended up in a tough spot. Videos on social media showed her getting into it with police and then being handcuffed.

After the arrest, Orleck went on X (formerly Twitter), saying “Those cops were brutal to me. I promise I did absolutely nothing wrong. I was standing with a line of women faculty in their 60s to 80s trying to protect our students. I have now been banned from the campus where I have taught for 34 years.”

Orleck’s banishment from the campus, as revealed by College spokesperson Jana Barnello in a statement to The Dartmouth, was attributed to a directive from the bail commissioner, rather than a decision made by the College administration.

Barnello clarified that Dartmouth had no intention of seeking Orleck’s exclusion from the campus, highlighting a legal nuance in the situation.
