Allen Ganter (age 57, born in 1966) is a Connecticut cop who came into the headlines in December 2023 after assaulting a van driver, Thomas Brocuglio, at a red light. Ganter who was off duty during the incident got into an altercation with Brocuglio after the latter repeatedly honked at him.

Dashcam footage from Thomas’s van shows how Allen flashed his police badge before approaching the vehicle. Soon they got involved in an argument. Just as Ganter was about to leave, Brocuglio asked for his badge number.

In a burst of anger, Ganter returned and hit Thomas, who later reported the incident to authorities. The whole event was recorded on video, which has now been made public, shedding light on the intense encounter.

Punched The Van Driver

On December 8, 2023, a confrontation occurred at the intersection of France Street and Cromwell Avenue in Rocky Hill involving Meriden police officer Ganter and Enfield resident Thomas Brocuglio. According to police reports, the incident was recorded by two dash cameras in Brocuglio’s van.

While Allen waited at a red light, Brocuglio, driving behind him, honked and made comments. The situation escalated when Brocuglio made an obscene gesture towards Ganter. In response, Allen got out of his pickup truck, showing his cell phone and badge.

The exchange became heated, with Brocuglio claiming Ganter was on his phone, which Ganter denied. Allen threatened Brocuglio with arrest and took photos of his van and license plate. As Ganter walked away, Brocuglio asked for his badge number.

Ganter then struck Brocuglio on the left side of his face through the open driver’s side window before returning to his truck. Brocuglio promptly contacted Rocky Hill police to report the assault by the officer.

Arrested & Charged

After a thorough investigation involving interviews with Brocuglio and examination of video evidence, Ganter was arrested by Rocky Hill police on December 20th.

He faced charges of second-degree breach of peace and third-degree assault. This arrest not only marred Ganter’s record but also led to the termination of his position as a Meriden school resource officer.

Additionally, he received a five-day unpaid suspension following an internal affairs inquiry. The investigation determined that Ganter’s conduct violated departmental policies, with his actions deemed unfitting for an officer, further compounded by his arrest.

In the aftermath of the incident, Ganter openly expressed his regret. He confided in Meriden Police Chief Rob Rosado about his embarrassment and admitted his wrongdoing to Lt. Darrin McKay, who oversaw the internal affairs investigation.
