Erin Jones (age 20, 2003 – April 28, 2024) was a sophomore student at the University of Arizona who tragically lost her life during the Midtown house party shooting in the early hours of Sunday.
The incident happened in the early hours of a Sunday morning, around 1:40 a.m. when the Tucson Police received multiple calls reporting gunfire at a house.
When the police arrived, they found four people who had been shot. It’s believed that there were many people at the party before the shooting, and some of them left before the police got there. Among those at the party, there were probably several University of Arizona students.
Erin Jones was found outside the house with very serious gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of the police to help her, she was taken to Banner University Medical Center, where she later passed away.
Another woman who had been shot was found in a nearby vehicle. She had injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment. Two more people, a teenage girl, and a man, arrived at hospitals in their own cars with injuries that weren’t life-threatening either.

After Erin Jones tragically passed away, the president of the University of Arizona, Robert C. Robbins, shared his condolences. He mentioned that the university community had suffered a great loss with Erin’s death, which happened off-campus.
President Robbins expressed deep sympathy for Erin’s family in California and across the country, as well as for her friends and classmates in Tucson and Newport Beach.
President Robbins assured everyone that the university was there to help, mentioning that he had spoken to Erin’s family and promised the university’s full support. He also said that they would share plans for honoring Erin’s life and memory with the community soon.
