Andrea Ye, also known as Alex Ye (age 18, born in 2005) is a transgender student of Wootton High School from Montgomery County. Recently, there have been concerns about their involvement in planning a school shooting. The Montgomery County Police Department arrested Andrea on April 17, 2024.
The arrest followed a joint investigation by the MCPD and the FBI Baltimore Field Office. This investigation started after the FBI alerted the MCPD about a 129-page “manifesto” written by Alex Ye.

Andrea attended school through a virtual program
Andrea Ye hasn’t been physically going to Wootton High School since 2022; instead, they’ve been attending classes online. Andrea has had a history of mental health issues, including thoughts about harming others or themselves and mentions of past abuse.
Recently, someone who knew Ye from a psychiatric care facility alerted the authorities about a document Andrea had written, which talked about violent plans. This led to Alex being evaluated at home and then hospitalized again in March because of concerns about their behavior.
A counselor who worked with Alex Ye mentioned that they would talk about violent acts like shooting up the school and seemed to want attention or fame from such actions.
Ye Remains in Custody
Andrea Ye, facing charges related to threats of mass violence, is presently detained at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, awaiting a bond hearing. They remain in custody pending the scheduled hearing. A conference is scheduled for Friday, April 19, where more information about the case is expected to be shared.
