Who is Amit Soussana? Israeli Woman Held Captive by Hamas Talks About Her Abduction and Assault in Gaza

Amit Soussana (born 1983) is an Israeli woman who gained public attention after being kidnapped by Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023. During her one-month captivity, she endured traumatic experiences, including sexual abuse by the terrorists. Despite being released, the emotional scars from her ordeal persist.

In interviews, Soussana recounted being forcibly taken from her home by a group of at least 10 men and subjected to sexual molestation while in Gaza. She described being chained and regularly harassed by her captors.

Her willingness to share her story has brought awareness to the issue of sexual harassment by Hamas fighters, making her a voice for many women who have experienced similar abuse.

Soussana Was Kidnapped From Kibbutz Kfar Aza   

On October 7, 2023, Hamas unleashed an attack on Israel. Many people were killed in this attack, and thousands were kidnapped and taken to the Gaza Strip. Most of the people who were kidnapped were women and children. One of these people was Amit Soussana.

According to an interview, Amit was at her home in the Kibbutz Kfar Aza when over 10 men came with guns and dragged her out of the house with the intention of abducting her.

Those men took her to Gaza and set her house on fire. Amit revealed that she screamed for help and requested the terrorists to leave her, but her requests were not heard by those Islamic fighters.

Amit Faced Horror In Gaza

After the kidnapping, terrorists took Amit to Gaza, and on the way, they misbehaved with her and beat her. Upon crossing the border, she was kept in a child’s bedroom, and her ankles were chained so she could not escape. A guard was assigned to look after her, and that guard, from time to time, entered her room with ill intentions.

Amit revealed that as time passed, the guard started asking her about her sexual life. The guard even questioned her about her period. Afraid of sexual assault, Soussana managed to fend him off for more than 7 days. On October 24, a guard named Muhammad entered her room, unlocked her ankle chains, and took her to the bathroom.

As the woman was taking a bath, Muhammad opened the bathroom door and stood there with a pistol in his hand. He put the gun to Soussana’s head and forced her to remove the towel. Muhammad forced her to perform sexual acts on him. According to her, she was not the only woman who had to go through it; many others also faced the same sexual exploitation.

Released By Hamas

After spending over 55 days in captivity the horror ended after Amit and a few more women were released by Hamas. She was released on the seventh day of the truce in November 2023. She was handed over to the Red Cross officials, who then transferred her to Israel.

Later, a video clip came out in which Amit, with one more Israeli woman, was seen being handed over to the Red Cross in Palestine Square. The Red Cross officials put her in a jeep and took her to the Israel border where an Israeli official welcomed her.

In 1983, Amit Soussana (age 40) was born in Sderot, Israel. According to sources, she and two siblings spent a wonderful childhood in the western Negev city. In 2001 Amit completed her schooling and joined the Sapir College. In 2005 she earned her law degree and started working at a local law firm.

Soon she moved to Kibbutz Kfar Aza joined The Luzzatto Group and started working as a patent attorney. She was enjoying a happy life but her life turned upside down after she was kidnapped by the Hamas fighters in October 2023. Now she is working on bringing her life back on track and healing the wounds she received during her time in Gaza.
