Jonathan Adam LeCompte (38, September 1985 – March 14, 2024) was a devoted family man and an employee at the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).
On March 14, while LeCompte was working, he saw someone stealing his NCDOT truck. The carjacker was Ricky Alex Driggers. He tried to stop Ricky, shouting not to take the truck. He even fired four shots at Driggers, but Driggers didn’t stop.
As Driggers reversed the stolen truck, Jonathan shouted for others to get out of the way, fearing a collision. Jonathan LeCompte and another person ran across the street, but the truck hit LeCompte, throwing him into the air. People nearby were shocked and worried, especially one woman who kept shouting in fear.
Witnesses rushed to help Jonathan, who lay injured on the roadside. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Ricky Driggers Charged for LeCompte Murder
A video widely shared online shows LeCompte aiming his gun at Ricky Alex Driggers, who had stolen his NCDOT truck. Driggers then deliberately hit LeCompte with a stolen vehicle, causing fatal injuries.
The incident began with an attempted carjacking reported at 10:29 a.m. on West Fifth Street. Witnesses saw Driggers trying to steal another car at a gas station, where brave bystanders intervened. However, Rick Driggers managed to steal a car and hit one of the helpers before fleeing.
Police pursued Driggers until he crashed on Selma Road near N.C. 41. Following the incident, Ricky Alex Driggers was charged with first-degree murder, fleeing to elude arrest, larceny of a motor vehicle, and two counts of attempted common law robbery.

Jonathan LeCompte, a loving husband, was married to Stacey LeCompte on September 19, 2015. Their life together was joyful, especially after welcoming their son in 2018. Stacey often shared their happy family moments on Facebook.
